Lose Weight Fast Gear News

OK the title sounds like a spam email, but if you want to feel a bit freer on the hill, a good place to start is reducing the weight of what you're carrying.

We all know the trade-off is often in durability; lightweight kit can wear out quicker.  So Salewa's new Pedroc fast-and-light range for this Spring ensures that fabrics and materials are absolutely top-notch quality, to ensure they last the distance.

Salewa Pedroc Pro 22 (£130.00)

A lightweight daypack, a perfect mountain marathon pack, or a great option for multi-pitch routes. The new Pedroc Pro offers a lightweight, close-contact carry with a wrapping fit; the anatomical hip belt hugs your body yet tucks away when not needed. Two features allow on-the-go use without removing the pack; large, accessible side pockets and Salewa's one-hand compression system allowing the load to be stabilised by pulling a single cord. The Dry Back Contact back features reduced surface contact area and greater airflow, while the split harness straps mould to your body to give a precise fit around the shoulders and better breathability. The pack body features a roll-top closure, plus front zip access, while the new double-ripstop Duralite nylon fabric gives abrasion and tear resistance with very low weight. Women's specific version: Pedroc Pro 20 W.

Salewa Pedroc 2.5L PTX Light Jacket (£180.00)

Weighing just 190g, this is a shell garment that can be worn all day to protect from wind and rain or just kept ready in your pack or on your harness, taking up minimal space. The PFC-free 2.5-layer Powertex laminate fabric is waterproof and highly breathable, with minimal yet effective features; elasticated storm hood, adjustable hem, elastic cuffs, and night reflective details. It actually has two zipped side pockets; it's surprising how many lightweight shells don't! Men's and women's versions available.

Salewa Pedroc Pro Polartec Alpha Jacket (£200.00)

An 'active insulation' layer for stop-and-go activities in cooler conditions, the Polartec Alpha Direct insulation helps regulate your temperature by retaining body heat when static, but allowing moisture vapour to move freely through the fabric when active. Think leading a pitch, then sitting on the belay for a while. The body-mapped design also uses perforated Durastretch soft shell fabric in areas that need body heat and moisture transported quickly away. The 60gsm Polartec Alpha Direct insulation is made from recycled polyester bottles and is bluesign sustainable textile certified. Men's and women's versions available.

Pedroc Pro Powertex Mid (£170.00) and Shoe (£150.00)

Always remember that every extra gramme on your feet adds up to many, many kilos you'll be lifting over a long day on the hill. With the Pedroc Pro models, Salewa has balanced light weight with agility and support to create footwear that'll cope with a wide range of scenarios. The Mid upper is an abrasion-resistant double ripstop nylon plus a full rand, with their 3F and Ankle Protector systems providing additional stability. Internally, Salewa's in-house Powertex breathable membrane keeps the water out while underfoot, the Speed Hiker Pro outsole from friction specialists Pomoca gives outstanding grip on rock with a lug pattern that also works well on mud and grass. The shoe version keeps the same components, in a low-cut design.
