Not me, but spotted on Twitter.. things getting quite serious!

Use of dry stone wall to jack up the car, real classy vandalism there...
Quite surprised that the overnighters didn't notice that their wheels were being stolen if they were asleep inside the car at the time.
Unless they were too drunk to notice...

Which leads us onto did the cops nick them when they phoned it in and were clearly still over the limit.

and thus the 'drunk in charge of a motor vehicle' debate can be re-started...

With the added bonus of can you drive on the brake discs alone.
Well I think removing the wheels trumps the old hiding the keys trick.

I'm guessing the owners got benighted trying to multipitch Verandah Buttress. Happens to the best of us.
You are right... trying to do this line by different methods resulted in my biggest total climbing time for any route on Stanage. I failed to work out the 4c method after many hours of effort and had to be shown.

Natonal Park Authority finally getting tough on overnighting?
The car was there Monday; with an note about being broken down and collecting "asap"
Assume someone has taken advantage, the wheels were extremely low profile so might be worth a few quid.
> ….the wheels were extremely low profile so might be worth a few quid.
How much did you get for them?
> The car was there Monday; with an note about being broken down and collecting "asap"
If that's the true situation, then the outcome is shit, and nothing to make light of. There are some bastards around.
> Assume someone has taken advantage, the wheels were extremely low profile so might be worth a few quid.
Flat tyres makes them low profile.
Anything else makes them fair game?
Could also simply have been out for a walk over night, practicing night nav, doing some astronomy etc.
Ah sorry if I misinterpreted it
> If that's the true situation, then the outcome is shit
Just sounds like they could have deserved it if they were not broken down
Looks like maybe German plates? It’s definitely a left hand drive
One of the big problems with Stanage is it's proximity to that massive hive of villainy, Sheffield.
<ducks>
> Looks like maybe German plates? It’s definitely a left hand drive
Yes, I didn't notice that in the photo.
Nice welcome to Britain for the people visiting. Makes me ashamed to live here.
In reply to Alex1993:
Agreed, but sadly its an extra attraction for villainy worldwide.
I've had cars broken into 3x while climbing at French crags with local plates left untouched.
In reply to Alex1993:
> Such a shame that someone would do this to people visiting the UK.
Do you think vandalism should be kept in house? Are you a real person?
Just because someone says it's a shame for something bad to happen to a particular group of people, does not mean they condone it happening to everyone else....
I think you've missed the point, Ryan ....
At what point are wheels lost and at what point are they abandoned? Crag swag? I haven't seen anything crop up in lost and found yet.
the iron cross symbol on the car could be significant?
wiki says it can be associated with extreme sports and heavy metal, but not the first thing that springs to mind..

Antifa fighting fascism by nicking alloys? Bit of a stretch on the victim blaming front.
Cross Patée are not limited to use by Nazis!
BBS split rims go a treat on eBay.

Fixed it for you
Also, if we are going to nit-pick, you were a day late :P
Good spot, that's my sympathy gone.
> Cross Patée are not limited to use by Nazis!
thanks- rather confusing, and no modern usage for Germany. maybe it's just a nice shape? think i saw a similar black wagon with cross at a stone circle once. reminds me of my dad telling me of the alternative meaning when i got an AC/DC belt
maybe we should set up a crowdfund for unfortunate tourists?
it very much is in modern use, it's used across all Germany's armed forces as their basic identification mark. it's painted on the side of almost every modern military vehicle. (t.b.h. I don't think this vehicle is military, maybe the owner is - at least they're not rocking fake bullet-hole stickers alongside.)
it's not to be confused with the vaguely similar "balkenkreuz". given that it's a criminal offense to display nazi symbols in germany, you don't see many cars driving around with that sort of stuff wapped all over the side-panels.
and there's the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cossack_cross rising in popularity?
It's used by Independent Trucks - skateboard and wheel company for decades
I was wondering if it was broken down but then abandoned once they worked out the recovery and repair cost vs the vehicle cost. And they decided to strip anything valuable to minimise losses.
Although it's an Audi it looks like an old one and probably not a high value one because owners of high value cars don't tend to cover them in iron cross stickers. It's a bit like the BMWs you see youngsters razzing around in which look ok and have the kudos of a BMW but in reality are 20 years old and carrying 200k miles.
> 'the kudos of a BMW'
> That would be funny were it not tragic.
Among a bunch of 18-20 year olds where the probable alternative is a fiesta or a corsa they probably stand out to people who they care to impress and don't know better.
Obviously the fiesta and corsa drivers have the better deal when something breaks or wears out and it turns out that something as simple as a set of brake pads cost them a weeks wages.
Anyone who thinks a car that is literally called 'party' is not cool needs to take a long hard look in the mirror.
I'm leaning towards it being abandoned.
I get the impression that wheels being nicked is pretty rare these days.
Couple that rarity with it being a foreign car, the likeliness of it being abandoned is that much higher. Recovering a broken car abroad is expensive and cutting you losses makes more sense.
