Does anyone have any recommendations for good apps or websites for French mapping and hiking paths/routes (GRs & PRs etc).
Happy with English or French language.
Preferably free but don't mind paying.
Specifically in area of Provence and Parc du Verdon, but national coverage is also welcome.
It's a while since I've been in that area, or hiking in France at all, so just catching up with what's good.
For a guide*book*, Cicerone have a "Walking in Provence - East" which I'm thinking of getting.
TIA

I use this on my phone for when I'm out on the trail and need a quick map check

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fr.ign.geoportail

I use https://tracedetrail.fr for creating and planning routes (mainly runs)

I'm now using the IGN Rando app for about £14 a year. Equivalent to OS Maps app I guess, can draw routes on it, download for offline use etc.

Download GAIA GPS, it has everything you need (and more).

IGN map app, Fatmap and view ranger do France

Alpine Quest pro I'd worth the few £ it costs

Iphigenie app and website is what I use, not as good as viewranger used to be, but then is anything?

I used fatmap this week in the massif central. Excellent.

I've always been fine with my usuals for the routes around Fontainebleau.

Alpinequest free version is ok. Osmand is very good (it's quietly GPL so get the + version for free from fdroid or GitHub). Magic earth is about the best for driving.

Did a trail race yesterday and the route was mapped using Tracedetrail.

This is what it looks like:

Komoot works well for Germany and Austria, see if it's good for France too.

Thanks for all the suggestions.  After a bit of Google and researching based on the suggestions above, I plumped for Iphigénie https://en.iphigen.ie/, and can report after some testing in real life on walks in Provence/Verdon Nat Park area, it's does exactly what I want.  It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but it ticks the boxes for me at the moment.

I have no connection with https://en.iphigen.ie/ other than as a user.

I use Visorando for Fontainebleau; not used it further afield.

In the free version one can download the route for use offline, and combined with phone's GPS and the written route description, it's almost impossible to get lost.

As for route selection, the search function is easy to use.

One can also upload a route: I've not tried yet myself.

Happy hiking !!
