...and the weather forecast is for it to be quite clear here

Obviously no guarantees, but probably worth a look if you get a chance.

Thanks for the tip. Northern Lights very much in evidence here on S Skye. Beautiful clear night.

It’s amazing how much people will pay on tours to see the AB, with no guarantee.

I see a business opportunity based around:

1. Spot relevant activity on the sun (website)

2. Book flight north for 2/3 days later.

Again, no guarantee but surely vastly enhanced?

Are you having a laugh? That link shows an out of focus picture with artificial lights blaring. No aurora.

Na, I thought the green colour in the sky was the aurora. I guess if it looks green every night you might be on to something.

Almost certain to see it in Shetland if its clear.

I worked there for 3 winters and saw them regularly.  But they don't impress every one.  I remember standing outside our bar one night when another construction worker came out whilst I was gazing at the moving green ribbons.  "Look", I said.   a quick glance upwards and he replied, "Just looks like fekking cloud to me". and walked off.

Can't win them all.

Funny, isn't it?

I can get quite excited about just a bit of a green glow off to the north, and go into full-blown chattering-and-jumping-up-and-down-mode when I see moving sheets and swirls; seeing a big spiral moving around right overhead when on Iceland one time is one of the most memorable experiences of my life.

But it wouldn't do if we were all the same, as they say.

The aurora were clearly visible in that webcam link at the time: they were the very obvious green glow in the sky.
