What would Walter Haskett-Smith think? What a great picture!

Stunning. The trailing rope really makes it.

I don't think it's the trailing rope that makes it for me!

Wow, great image!

this is beautiful

For me, the mist behind the figure really makes this image stand out. 'Strictly' for experts only!

Beautiful shot. POTW candidate I'd say.

Lovely creative shot Tom, love the processing. The white dress really works with the misty background.

Never mind the processing, what's the story?

Stunning, thanks for sharing this magic!

Thanks for the kind words folks. The back story to this is that it's inspired by a photograph of the first female ascent (Miss Dorothea Keocher), taken in 1890, A couple of friends and I worked hard to find a new take on this iconic Lake District location. All credit to Eliza, as lots of people know it's a pretty exposed spot! It was taken for a book I'm currently collaborating on with Nadir Khan, Extreme Lake District.

A cropped version of this photo appeared on the January edition of Cumbria Life, which showed little more than the top block of the Needle. Losing much of the exposure, in fact when I first saw the photo I couldn't make out where it was at all! She's a brave lass: I was taken up Napes Needle on third day's climbing by the arete route (it was graded V Diff in those days) and I found it a terrifying experience. I lay flat on the summit before being lowered back to the Shoulder.
