Coniston Mountain Rescue Team have been shortlisted in a competition that could win them £12,500 for a project to fit solar panels to their base. The sum, which is being awarded by public vote through the M&S Energy Fund, would almost entirely cover the cost of installation.
The panels would reduce the Team's electricity costs to almost nothing, they say, and in addition provide an income of several hundred pounds per year into the future, as well as reducing their carbon footprint.
The Team, whose patch stretches from The Old Man of Coniston to Windermere, needs as many votes as possible to be in with a chance of winning in their category. They are calling on the hill-going community to help out. The poll closes 30th September.
