Hi,

I'm trying to plan a trip to the High Tatra this winter for some winter climbing. It's proving quite hard to find good info on routes, http://www.tatry.nfo.sk./vthse.php is OK but hard to navigate especially without knowing the area. 

The main areas I have looked at are 'Morskie Oko' on the Polish side and the area around 'Chata pri zelenom plese' hut on the Slovakian side.

Does anybody on here have a good source of info on the Tatras or might have a local contact we could get in touch with (either Polish or Slovakian side)? Any guidebooks out there? Any help would be much appreciated.

Can't help you much on contacts or routes but I'll give you a heads up on booking the hut on the Polish side as early as you can as even in winter, the foot traffic up there is very busy. There are a couple of other huts nearby, we stayed at the Rostoki I think it was called which had more climbers in it. I heard the Slovakian side is much quieter.

I did a hut-to-hut touring trip in the Tatras in 2020 with Kuba from https://climbingholidays.eu/ . Great trip, great location, and I'm sure the team will be able to point you in the right direction.

I think he's been trying to put together a guidebook for some years. he's certainly had a lot of trips out there..

Chata pri Zelenom plese in Dolina Bielej Vody is the best place for the first time visit. Big choice of all the kinds and grades of the routes.

I would say best / most reliable conditions you can expect in second half February. Feel free to contact me.
