myself plus a few others usually stay at Calluna in Fort William, as the alpine loft is nice and affordable and they do winter kit hire which my mates need. sadly i was too late getting organised for Feb 2023 and it is now booked up when we want to go - does anyone know of any other accomodation in similar price range (Calluna works out at around 35 pppn) that also hires winter kit?

edit to say that i know various shops can rent gear but then the logistics of the trip get tied around shop opening hours which prefer to avoid. thanks all for any tips!

The team at Mountain Hire are excellent and have a really good selection of kit to chooe from. They also can usually cater to whatever time you need to collect or drop off as it runs from their own premises.

Unfortunately Rob, who started the business, passed away in a climbing accident earlier this year and his partner Eilidh has decided to continue the business on in his legacy with the help of Rob's family and friends. So if you decide to go down that avenue you know it's going to a good local business.

I work in Nevisport over the winter and we don't offer kit hire anymore but I sent countless people to Rob last season and he was always grateful for the business. I have no doubt that Eilidh will uphold his very high standards.

As a side note, anyone wishing to hear the story about Rob and looking to help support hte business, I'll put the link below.

Looks great thanks, much better than shop opening hours for sure.

just need to match it with affordable accommodation in FW, all suggestions welcome!

I stayed here https://www.chasethewildgoosehostel.co.uk/ for a week one winter. I found it  excellent, especially as there is nice walking in the dark along the canal if you want a leg stretch before bed.

It is slightly out of Fort William town centre, with easy parking. It also doesn't have a drying room. It was no problem for me to dry my kit in my room as I had sole occupancy but it might be a problem if you share with someone else.
