Thread moved from Rocktalk to Winter Climbing

We're planning on travelling up to the Cairngorms over the holidays for some easy winter climbing!! Does anyone know what the conditions are like as we speak?

Thanks Gaz 😉

Mostly thawing for the next week. It could come back by the holidays but it's not looking great at this point.

Slowly thawing at all levels on Sunday, and accelerated thaw will strip all rock this week.  Inversion conditions thereafter.  If we get no new snow, and the inversion conditions remain, the remaining snow pack may re freeze overnight and remaining low angle gullies could be good early in the morning. If the inversion is a bit warmer, or the air moisture is higher, or the inversion shifts away without a drop in temps it will all be soggy.

Impossible to say really. February is usually one of the more reliable months but I wouldn't bet on it.

Warm and windy tomorrow’s and Thursday will result in major loss of snow.

Very strong temperature inversion now forecast +11degc at 900m on Friday.  Doubt the surviving snow will firm up. So pray for a change in weather, or if the high lingers, just accept potentially stunning walking conditions (subject to a high pressure clag getting drawn in off the sea).
