Hi.

Looking at going on summer holiday with our 5 year old.  Looking for nice low key family friendly campsites.  Nice area, river to play in, farm animals, nice pub nearby, good walks kinda vibe.  Open where to go.  Current thoughts of Yorkshire or S.Wales but would be up for other places.  Currently live in N.Wales so not here.

Thanks 😊

There's a couple of sites just outside Buckfastleigh in Devon that might tick some boxes. I've stayed at breara farm campsite, very lovely, with the river dart running through it, which you can swim in, there's also another site called Churchill farm, I haven't stayed there but seems they have lots of sheep and seems to get good reviews.

Both close to Buckfastleigh, with a few pubs and other bits n bobs (and climbing wall!), it's a nice part of the world in general at the foot of the moors.

Looks like there's a few in the area to peruse, hope you have a nice trip!

Fisherground in the Lakes is good for kids. Shallow pond with rafts, mini railway runs by the site, pub in walking distance. Pub with pizza oven, a few km down the road.

Cloud Farm campsite on the North Devon coast is right by a river. Loads of kids having a great time in and around that when we were there. Lots of walks.

Treloan campsite at Portscatho on the south Cornwall coast

A really nice position, with animals in the field below, the coast path at the bottom of that field and Portscatho about a mile, if that, along the path. That has pubs, cafe and beaches.

North Wales to South Cornwall is a lovely drive with a 5 year old!

Cloud Farm is really nice but I find it a long drive with kids and I live in Somerset.

There are some nice campsites for kids in the Wye Valley (Beeches farm) and it’s not a ridiculous distance from North Wales.

I guess the OP can make that call. At least they now know about these campsites, both of which were teeming with young kids having a great time when we were at them.

Thanks everyone for your recommendations.  Sitting down now with a cuppa to look at them.

On first glance they all look great, exactly the type of places we like.

🙂

We love Foel Farm in Shropshire. It's a beautiful pastoral setting next to a river, and there are lots of animals for the little ones to see up close. There's a great local pub, too.
