The BMC present a carnival of words, performance, art, food and atmosphere to mark 70 years since Everest was first summitted
1953 saw Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary be the first to step onto the summit of this world’s most celebrated mountain, Everest. Come along and hear why this remote cone of ice and rock still holds a magnetic draw for anyone who loves the mountains, and how it feels to stand on top.
This show is about more than mountaineering and will show the human stories that exist around the peak. Hear what it means to the Nepalese who live in its shadow, hear about the country and hear stories of the mountain you did not know.
The bougie charms of Sheffield’s best-kept-secret, The Hideaway, will be the setting for this unique show and the evening will be all about the atmosphere. The talks start at 20:00 but come along from 18:30 to hang out, chat and relax, but most importantly to enjoy a fabulous Nepalese feast prepared by Kathmandu-curry master, The Hungry Buddha. Vegetarian thali included in ticket price.
As well as that, hear from the guides who lead people there, and see art from Nepali artist Manish Harijan and Sheffield local Alex Ekins.

Deon Barrett grew up through troubled times in Surbiton until joining the army gave him direction as well as a love for mountains. Since leaving the forces this love has fuelled a taste for adventure and challenge and now he has his sights focused on being the first black Englishman to summit Everest.
Manish Harijan is a contemporary artist living in Sheffield whose work makes political and social commentary on his native Nepal.
Alex Ekins is a Sheffield based artist whose images of the faces and sights of Kathmandu have graced the city’s quiet corners for years.
