Wikipedia says that the high point of the Finisterre Range (in Papua New Guinea, elevation 13,648 feet (4,160 m)) is the highest unclimbed prominence in the world.
Sounds like an interesting trip. Any ideas? Info?

I haven't checked Wikipedia, and usually ignore it because there's too many errors and rubbish, but some of the main prominence people contacted me a while ago asking about two Antarctic peaks that are probably unclimbed. One is about 3100m and they were suggesting that is the world's highest unclimbed prominence (it's extremely hard to get to).

well, it's getting me interested. How come no-one climbed it? It doesn't seem impossibly inacessible

In reply to MikeTS:

prominence is bullshit. there are many unclimbed 7000m peaks in the himalaya which any real climber, not a ticklist filling peak bagger, would prefer.

Prominence is what it is. A virgin 7K peak is now (unfortunately) out of my league. A 4K virgin peak in a little explored and exciting (leech infected) part of the world sounds like a good adventure to me.
