Not a world record as it was not an IAAF recognised course and also because of the way in which pacers were used. So, slightly contrived by Nike, but nevertheless a stonking time! Agonisingly close.

Running a 4:36 mile 26.2 times...or running 100m in 17 secs 422 times!

I can't run at 4:36 pace for 0.262 of a mile, let alone for 26.2 miles. It's just mind blowing.

If it wasn't for those pesky 385 yards he'd have been well inside it.

I suspect now that they've shown it's technically humanly possible we may see the actual WR drop by a minute or so. Once the 4min mile was achieved quite a few people managed it fairly quickly. Running is all in the head.

In reply to mountainbagger: amazing running, despite all the pacemakers, loop track and so on. Are split times available ?

In reply to mountainbagger:
The 5k splits, and how far ahead/behind required pace below :-

2-hr Pace Distance Kipchoge's Splits 2-hr pace? 5K Split
14:13 5K 14:14 1 sec slow 14:14
28:26 10K 28:21 5 sec fast 14:07
42:39 15K 42:34 5 sec fast 14:13
56:52 20K 56:49 3 sec fast 14:15
1:00:00 Half 59:57 3 sec fast -
1:11:05 25K 1:11:03 2 sec fast 14:14
1:25:18 30K 1:25:20 2 sec slow 14:17
1:39:31 35K 1:39:37 6 sec slow 14:17
1:53:44 40K 1:54:04 20 sec slow 14:27
2:00:00 Marathon 2:00:25 25 sec slow -

It's interesting that the Scottish 5K road champs were held on Friday night, and the winner did it in a commendable 14:31 - Kipchoge remarkably did 8 consecutive 5k's faster than the winner of that race !!

In reply to steelbru:

So he ran a sub 1 hour HM followed straight away by a 1:00:28 HM.

In reply to mountainbagger:

Disappointed to read a headline that said "2 hour sub marathon attempt fails". Fails??? What a negative word to use. Yes, he didn't do it but, man, he did so brilliantly that to use the word "fail" is just dumb
