Hi,

I'm looking for physio pointers from anyone who has experience of rehabbing shoulder mobility after cancer surgery and total lymph node clearance under an armpit. I've had nearly 3 months of self-guided physio with all the leaflets and print-offs the NHS have available after the surgery. Mobility isn't bad for 'normal' day to day activity and to be in a good enough state for the radiotherapy positioning required on the next course of treatment, but it's nowhere near the level of movement I had before with associated 'cording' still remaining, and nerve damage to inside of left arm and lats area.  I've done a massive amount of work to get this far, but still think I could do a lot better given specialist advice even if I have to pay for it. There must be knowledge for atheletes in a similar situation (a specialist physio with any inside knowledge is what I'm hoping to find on here).

Thanks for any pointers in the right direction,

Sue

No links Sue but I know a physio who works on a cancer treatment team in Paeds….do you not have access to one in the oncology team?
well done so far in your treatment and hope the next phase goes well for you…best wishes!

Thanks for your answer. I've had another direct reply which may help, but any info is appreciated. The oncology team gave me a set of standard exercises for all their post-operative patients, (which I've outgrown) but nothing more specialised for athletes. The aim of the NHS is to probably rehab people well enough to be able to work, but isn't able to extend to beyond that at the moment.

Yep agreed….i work in the NHS! There are some really great physios around who are trained really well for sport/ rehab so a good local search may prove useful….a good one will take a full history and understand your aims etc…good luck…
