Crikey, any year 7 geography teachers in the house? Ive consulted Google and various other resources but there are far too many similar descriptions 5, 6, 8 and 9 are really tricky.

This is self learning stuff which hasn't yet been taught in class.

TIA

I’ve had this a few times. No joke but try turning your phone off and on again. No guarantee. I haven't figured out what the problem or solution really is but brute force and patience tends to get me there ! Good luck

Simple process of elimination there.

Ffs, it took all my skills and Straggles to get a fec'n picture up. 1st 4 are easy. 5 6 8 9 are annoyingly ambiguous

I make it 5 i   6c  7b  8f   9e   though a couple of these could be interchangeable as u said.

Wikipedia was mostly my friend as there seems to be a fair amount of geographic jargon, but here's my effort:

1-4 same as you.

5 C, 6 I, 7 B, 8 F, 9 E

Thanks for keeping me away from the telly

ff

Others have answered and I am not reading those, I am going to have a try...

5 - E

6 - F

7 - B

8 - F

9 - F

this is why I got a relatively low grade in Geography at school

In reply to TheDrunkenBakers:

I'm going with 5c, 6i, 7b, 8f, 9e.

I am not a year 7 geography teacher and have no other relevant qualifications.

Its tricky isnt it. She's just 12. I spent two hours looking through various academic references and glossaries and inconclusive. If the hive mind of UKC cant definitely answer this very appropriate question, given its prime activity,  who can?

Having checked with Wikipedia, and stiring my grey matter I get:

1 - 4 same as you

5 - i, 6 - c, 7 - b, 8 - f, 9 -e

Thanks for aninteresting diversion

Not unless you can help her (me) earn it? 🤨

I dont remember being asked questions like this.

IIRC through flow is where water flows through the soil (it's an exam topic for me on the 14th of May, so hopefully I'm currently correct).

What’s tricky is balancing this (which I do think is beyond should be expected at that age, in exam conditions) against all the cries of “plummeting” standards! I did pretty well at school (1986-91) and at Sixth Form College and I am really glad I am not doing it now ....

bit misleading with those categories - several overlap in  relation to water present in the ground

Also need to consider whether the water is in vadose or phreatic zone

In reply to TheDrunkenBakers:

A lot of this is oversimplified to the point of being vague and more difficult than is necessary - I guess thats a hallmark of school geography however, even up to A Level. Also with some additional fine-level distinctions thrown in that nobody actually uses outside of a school geography lesson...

Anyway, my answers:

1D
2G
3H
4A
5I
6C
7B
8E
9F

Undergrads don't even know what the vadose zone is, Y7 have no chance! The way groundwater is "taught" in schools pains me to the very core.

Yes but also work a fair bit with groundwater flooding of properties... And Earth Science background.

I was taught about saturated /unsaturated zones in geography lessons back in my day

Ian Steven's list is correct. I would expect my Year 8 class to know this after we have covered the rivers topic and carried out fieldwork in the Carding Mill Valley.

In reply to Chris H:

Id love to, Chris. I wont know until she's back at school next week and they cover it off.

Start with the descriptions not the words, treat them like crossword clues, eliminate the easy ones first until you're left with a 2 or 3 way multiple guess.

jk

In reply to phizz4:

Throughflow is generally through soil and groundwaterflow is generally through rock so should be 8f 9e

You are correct, my apologies. Reading the question sideways didn't help.
