Thanks for all the advice and encouragement on this earlier thread

https://www.ukhillwalking.com/forums/off_belay/the_dangers_of_sea_kayaking-687...

It's cost us even more than feared, not just boats (brace of Rockpool Isels) paddles, spare paddles, dry suits, VHF et etc

Loads of fun on our unaccompanied trips inc around the Ormes battling swell and winds.  Just passed our 3 star.  Looking forward to more fun, practice and learning.

Can be hard finding others to paddle with , especially with Sheffield being so far from the sea.

Enjoy it...

In case you haven't seen it :

If you haven't got a plb, add it to your Christmas list

Put your vhf in a radio bag. They don't work well with water in the microphone or speaker in emergency.

In reply to Dave B:

Thanks Dave, yes PLB's already purchased and registered

In reply to kevin stephens:

A number of the paddlers at our local club have sea kayaks... many of them are climbers too http://peakpaddlers.co.uk/ just a couple of miles the other side of buxton from you. If you want some more info pm me and I can pass on to one of our members who regularly sea kayaks

Thanks Ross, that looks useful, especially availability of the reservoir for training, I've messaged the club via the web link
