But at least current events provide good material for Marina Hyde to work with:

Indeed, without wishing to put the cat among the skunkworks, it’s almost as if the government can’t face any form of self-awareness. Analysis-wise, we’re on the level of the armchair football pundit whose verdict is that England just didn’t play with enough “passion” during the first wave. At the end of the day, the virus just wanted it more.

In reply to no_more_scotch_eggs:

Heard the analogy of Boris being like "a manager who'd lost the dressing room" used on 5 Live the other day. Seems legit...

To further the analogy , as may have been heard discussed by Barry McPundit...

"The gaffer has got to look at the team he's  assembled around him, and especially the backroom staff. In particular he needs to get shot of his "special one" master tactician who  it seems  is blindly careering all across the road, but doing so with more self-conviction than a faulty VAR analysis of a clearly dodgy handball decision and without any obvious understanding of the beautiful game..."
