Did I hear the tail end of an informal news item, on the radio? Has Dicky Betts died? That is a sad passing if that is the case.

In reply to veteye:

Yes, very sad. He and Duane Allman formed a formidable lead guitar partnership and he wrote some lovely country-inflected songs for the band.

In reply to Andy Clarke:

I saw The Allman Brothers' Band at least twice, once at the good old Apollo in Glasgow. Sadly it was after Duane died, and after the release of Eat a peach, but they were brilliant.

I also saw an off-shoot band a long time ago, but I have yet to see the band which is from the family of Butch Trucks. I am told that they are excellent.

There was some interesting conversation in the interview with Dicky Betts on a related You Tube clip. He'll be missed by many.

On a recent Grateful Dead concert release (RFK Stadium from 1973) Dicky Betts and Butch Trucks join them for a set. Some great guitar interplay as that distinctive Allman Bros sound meshes with the intricate jamming of the Dead.

Also the wonderful jazz-rock "In memory of Elizabeth Reed"
