Rock shoe rubber gone shiny - how to fix?

I've got 2 pairs of Boreal Ninja Junior climbing shoes for my kids, both pairs bought 2nd hand.

On one pair, the rubber is the normal, sticky-feeling texture that you expect on them.

On the other pair, the rubber has gone shiny and feels almost slippery in your hands.

Any suggestions for treating this and re-surfacing them, before I try a wire brush and/or lighter fluid? Ideally, something I can easily do before we need them at the weekend!

There's really no point paying to have them re-soled.

Boreal rubber often does that if the shoes haven't been used for a while, but a bit of spittle and a vigorous rub with the palm of the hand quickly returns it to normal.

Ok, thanks - I'll give it a go later.

Interesting that there's such a marked difference between the rubber on shoes of a broadly similar age - in fact, the ones that are still ok seem to have had much less use!

I had a pair of Lasers years ago, but can't remember them doing that - most of mine have been Scarpa or Sportiva.
