Hi all

Please could you help and show some official Swiss information - stating that from 2018 (or 19) you are not allowed to camp "anywhere" in the area?  ... I mean above the Hut.

There is a clear sign there (well, always was ... ) indicating "restricted zone" but it was never a problem to pitch the tent slightly above (say 500 m) on the glacier, where the snow line "begins". This was way outside / beyond that "restriction".

Tried to find some info from previous years (18-19 mainly) but couldn't find anything either.

Anyone please?

I've heard many - i have a friend of a friend and he told me ...., please only official (if you could guide me, i'll do some digging, any links will be of help)

Thanks a lot

In reply to BDS:

Technically "wild" camping anywhere in the Zermatt region (Gemeinde Zermatt) is forbidden and has been since at least 2009. See the Verkehrsreglement at https://gemeinde.zermatt.ch/reglement

Freies Campieren

1) Das freie Zelten und Campieren ist untersagt. Vorbehalten bleibt die Benutzung offizieller Zeltplätze.

Around the Hörnlihütte there's an additional by-law preventing any bivouacking above 2880m. I haven't heard of anything specific for the Monte Rosa hütte apart from the usual rules of not bivouacking near huts but the only people who will be able to give you definitive advice are the Zermatt authorities - contact details can be found at: https://gemeinde.zermatt.ch

In general overnight bivouacking (not multi day camping) is allowed in Switzerland above the limit of the forest but there are exceptions with Zermatt and Leuk being the two communes that ban it everywhere.
