Climbing/Trekking Kyrgyzstan

Through my partner's work she's been involved in a few projects in Kyrgyzstan but has never been to the country. She's expressed an interest in going there and I too am interested. We would like to combine it with a mountaineering expedition. We do not have the experience to do anything remotely like Peak Lenin or Tien Shan. Does anyone know of any reputable expeditions going there for trekking/basic mountaineering? Something like Jagged Globe would be ideal.

Educate me!

Thoughts, comments, wildly divergent tangents welcome.

Not sure if you ski but I know one of the guides from this company well (Nico, who speaks good English) and they make ski touring trips there, they may well be able to help or tailor to your needs.

Ak Sai travel is the largest adventure travel and mountaineering company in Kyrgyzstan, they run the basecamps for all the major summits, and would be a very reliable company to go through if you want to climb Peak Lenin (most western agencies will work through them if you want to cut out the middle man).

They can also arrange Helicopter transfers, other transport and expedition supplies if you want to go to more remote locations.

Also, don't overlook Ala Archa as a place to climb (next to Bishkek), it probably has some of the best quality mountaineering in the country.

Cheers,

Alex.

Having been there this summer I would recommend going to the Arabel plateau, which is easily accessible from the Kumtor gold mine road. Stay at the Tamga guest house before and you should be easily able to organise a drop off and pick up. Plenty of straight forward peaks to do in the area upto 4800 I think, mainly easy glacier and scree walking. https://photos.app.goo.gl/7mWRNBXZMF1scL2G6

We also trekked from jyergylan to karakol independently. Again easy to organise transport to karakol and jyergylan from Tamga. There are some routes suggested on line we based our trek around. All non glaciated passes and valleys upto 3600 m. Really good.

I should probably write up a little trip report at some point.

Also Archa national park is very accessible from Bishkek with lots of good trekking and mountaineering.
