Climbing with diabetes

I've just been given a freestyle libre and though it is reading a little high compared to my accu-check, it does seem to be a game changer in terms of controlling blood sugars.

In the past, it has been a little tricky to manage sugars when climbing, especially alpine climbing and I have ended up running them high to avoid hypos. With continuous monitoring, it seems maybe this problem could be avoided. So was wondering if anyone has advice on systems that work well.

Has anyone tried a continuous monitor with a smart watch? Any problems with temperature or the inevitable wear and tear that comes with climbing?

Hi Ushba,

You could try giving Jerry Gore a shout, Jerry has a very impressive recored in the mountains all over the world, he has type 1 diabetic, and is a world diabetes ambassador and has his own charity for diabetic kids in Asia - https://www.action4diabetics.org

He is normally really happy to talk about his experience as a diabetic especially in regards to mountaineering.
