Does anyone have opinions or experience of E-MTBs?

I'm thinking of being a bit indulgent to myself and getting something like: https://www.chainreactioncycles.com/vitus-e-sommet-vr-electric-mtb-slx-1x11...

(As opposed to something non-E like: https://www.alpkit.com/sonder/bikes/sonder-transmitter-nx-eagle-revelation )

I'd want it mainly for trips around Edale such as up the Chapel Gate track, round the Brown Knoll paved path, and down Jacob's Ladder.    Basically interested in a comfortable and enjoyable pouter around for an hour of two, rather than anything hard core.

You can hire full suss e-Bikes from Bike Garage near Bamford, to see if its your thing.

I'm all over confused here.

You're comparing a 170mm full suspention ebike with a 150mm hardtail

and

You want to go down Jacobs but don't want anything hardcore.

Additionally the paved path round Brown Knoll does not have right of way for cyclists.

In reply to thepodge:

The Brown Knoll path doesn't have any RoW (i.e. it's not even a footpath)

It is within CROW land, with the accompanying restrictions.

Good suggestion, thanks, think I'll do that.

Not sure what you are getting at there, I said it doesn't have right of way for cyclists. CROW or not its still the same.

Maximum comfort/ease versus a more minimal approach!

By which I meant I won't be going at all fast.

True, but ...

Not sure I'd consider Jacobs hardcore. It's a bit loose but that's about it.

Brilliant descent though. I do catch myself missing the Peaks every now and then!

In reply to MischaHY:

it is indeed brilliant but I also wouldn't call it a comfortable and enjoyable pouter.

And I just said it doesn't have any footpath RoW.

.... it depends how fast you go.

It's got some new drainage lines crossing it in the upper section, which add to the fun.

Has also got harder/rougher in the last few years I reckon.

I've not ridden it since 2016 so it could well be spicier than I remember!

Used to be going pretty swift though. I had a 160mm travel fully back then and it was an absolute weapon on those Peak XC trails.

We could be here some time if we're listing all the things it doesn't have.

Feel free to !

The E sommet is a great bike and you would have an unimaginable amount of fun on it. E bikes are not my thing at the moment but I won't deny the joy you'd get from a bike like that. Excellent fork and top motor. Just go for it.
