To answer a few points. I live & work in Dubai the photo was taken by a good friend also a climber who was lucky enough to get up there.When I got the phot it was two days old (how do you define original?)
The plunger is a light on the second crane, bottom centre you can see the main crane tower and balustrade of the upper deck.
There are unconfirmed reports someone base jumped from the tower last week.

I've seen it, it's truly awesome. Dubai is a shit hole though.
