And now one rubbish vote as well. Just shows what kind of dipshits there are about.
Superb historical shot.

How can anybody say this is 'rubbish'? It's an excellent photo by any standard, but given the historical context it's bloody marvellous.

To be fair on those people that have scored this low, there is a lot of clutter and people in the background.
Having said that the position, that thin sideways pull and that tiny piece of gear make my palms sweat just looking at them. Definitely worth at least a 4.
By the way, is he on three ropes. he appears to have a 3rd blue rope attached.

Fairly certain it was climbed on three ropoes with the third being to stop the swing.

Superb Chris, good to see somebody else posting 'old' pictures, yours are rather better than mine though.

Excellent! Background clutter adds atmosphere: a normal day at Froggatt but a nice and sharp image of a far from normal FA.

Personally I think photos such as this one merrits a high mark just for the historical interest alone !
I`ve given it a 5* because I think it`s a great photo.

could someone explain the history behind this picture? i was a premature twinkle in my fathers eye when this was taken.

Only just spotted this one, and the rest of the sequence - fantastic shots Chris, and as a couple of others have asked, are these shots from the same day that Ian took his shots, or is this the actual first ascent a few days earlier?
5* from me!

So ahead of it's time this. To be done in '82 with old gear and in EB's was SUCH a great achievment, it shows just how good a climber Johnny Woodward was.
An amazing route, a great line, superb moves, just fantastic.

I've recently discussed this shot with Graham Hoey and Ian Smith. It is actually a second ascent of BG by Johnny, done for a photo shoot. I did colour, IS did B&W. Sorry about the memory lapse.

Iconic, well ahead of it's time. Nice shot.
