Hi Mike
Basically the Castle Hill Basin is inland 100km from ChCh and has two main areas - the Homestead which is Spittle Hill and Quantum field - very cool, accessible but a bit abused (slippery ) and Flock Hill which is private land. It is where they filmed some of Sharmas latest movie the Big Game. It is about a 40 min up hill wander.
You must get permission to go there and check access details at these two websites. There is a form to download and email off or you can call in at the Flock Hill Station.

There is no Guidebook to Flock Hill (which is great), very much a explore the place and discover. It is really easy to get confused about finding things again until you get used to it. It is really easy to go there and never see the problems you did on your last trip. The other two are covered in various fashions and popping into Bivouac will show you whats available.
