Shot in a fairly deserted part of Canyonlands using the self-timer - took about 30 attempts to get right and I can remember at least one trouser-filling moment in mid-air where I thought I'd misjudged!

Superb - 30 runs at it before getting the shot is some dedication and 'room for error' as you yourself confirm!

I love it! Amazing setting, and you've got way more nerve than me!

Wow! I'd love a big print of this.

A small step for man...a giant cock-up if you misjudge your leap!!!!

30 attempts means 60 leaps ...?

I was trying to scale that gap, but came up with an incredible distance, so I guess it is the angle that is confusing me. I recall 30 years ago, my PB long jump (into a safe sand pit) was 5.55 m (I was crap) But when there is a big drop I would feel safer at about 3 M. What distance was that, or is it a mock-up ?

see where the light is? - its a cut and paste job - the guy is far too dark and the light between the arms don't fit... hmmmmm si
Simon - 02/Mar/07
Distance was not much more than 3ft... and the platform was about the size of a squash court, so it was definitely easier than it's made to look here.
Personally, if I was going to construct cut-and-paste-style, I would have taken it from a better angle.

Nice picture, but as Simon says, cut and paste job I'm afraid. Save the picture, then open it up and blow it up to double size. There are blocks of colour round the person that don't blend into the sky. If you're going to cut and paste, use photoshop to blend it better :-)

I guess StephenFulton knows nothing about jpeg compression then, Good photo!

I'm not so convinced this is a fake, even the shawow is a good quality. I know i've taken images in the past that altough completely natural have looked mocked up on screen at home. Either way, its a well positioned shot.

You are looking at a fact not a fiction.
