common to use a single crab on the first bolt, esp' routes of this nature

Realy? Why? Without an extender, more force exerted on the bolt in a fall, especially with so little rope out.

You are quite right Sean, the force will be significantly lower if Johnny's feet just say skip the floor on stretch. Dashed sporting to have chosen to have tied the rope around his waist like a true old timer and forgoing that new fangled harness thingy too!!
