What’s a “permissive footpath “?

A 'permissive path' means that the BMC have done another great job. The field between the road and the moor around the crag is privately owned. Climbers used to just jump over the wall or take a long walk round. By engaging with the land owner we now are allowed to use the stiles to enter and cross the field, provided we don't damage anything. These kind of access arrangements would be very difficult to set up without the BMC and the understanding of the private landlords. Thumbs up to the owner who lets us cross their land.
