It's near St Catherine's village. The area was a battleground in the 1967 war between Egypt and Israel.
The "UN blue" rocks are a huge installation (LSD fuelled apparently) by French Artist Jean Berame
No one is allowed there as there now, as were 2 murders there of police. Our Bedouin guide Mohammed got us in for the afternoon (I can recommend him to anyone going to Sinai and can pass you his contact details).
Here's some info on the area: http://www.geographia.com/egypt/sinai/bluedesert.htm

Weird, our guide was called Mohammed too. Did he tell you his last name was "The Fox". "Mohammed by day, Fox by night". I was in the Operation Wallacea research facility thing on top of the hill near the police station. for about 4 days of the two weeks.

Being called Mohammed in Egypt is like being called Fred Smith in England (very common name). Our guide Mohammed was Mohammed by day, Mohammed by night.
