I recall it been quite a bold climb at that time...our gear in 1966 comprised of a couple of Moac chocks, a selection of home made drilled out steel nuts and a few long slings! Nothing seemed to fit very well and all were difficult to place.
I for one are glad things have moved on...I wouldn't still be leading trad if it wasn't for modern gear.

There's quite a tricky move R at the top if I recall correctly Tony

My feeling is that people such as you guys who were climbing HVS and XS in the 1960s were the boldest of all generations, before or since. Previously, protectionless hard routes would at least tend to be easier-angled, so at least people could gather themselves. But attacking ever steeper rock, with such rudimentary gear - wow! For the next generation, wires (and later Friends) tamed so many routes.

Hi Sean, I remember there been a couple of tricky moves...I'd borrowed my brother's PA's that were too big for me so found the smooth corner just bellow Ken desperate, feet skating everywhere. The hardest moves in my opinion, were saved for the final short traverse. Ken did a brilliant job leading that day.
