Went to Garron Point circa 1970 with Mick Curran and Phil Blake who'd developed the early routes there. Did some second and third ascents. Always thought the place had more potential. Of course... just remembered Garron Tower was the school. They'd gone to it. Courtesy of Dr Google, turns out it wasn't a bundle of fun - similar to my old boarding school in Newry. Shudder!

Interesting.Mick still climbs a bit.He is one of a group of us who visit Costa Blanca every year.I had a big fall many years ago at Garron Point due to loose rock,so never went back.Crag at road now covered in netting.Rock on these sports routes is much better. As far as I know these are the only sport climbs in NI.

I'm not quite correct in saying these routes are the only sports climbs in NI ,as there are others in Fermanagh.

Is there any permissions required for access or can I just park up and dander in from the road?
Rory Armstrong - 02/Oct/17
Not really sure what the access issue is.No problems as yet but things could change.Anyway just have a walk up.
