Christ. Another victim of the polished first pitch?

This was taken from P7 (we belayed a little sooner than you suggest on P6, James). There was a comedy of errors with 6 teams showing up to do Mariakante (including 2 guides and some Italian dudes who should've known better!) and only one initially finding a correct start! Initial delay and subsequent log jam on the route led to one good bunch of guys electing for Via Gross instead. Unfortunately they ended up off route, somewhere up the main Mariakante gully, and one of them must have fallen trying to find a way out. A helicopter hovering metres away from both me and my partner (she on lead at that rather exposed point!) was certainly thought provoking. Superbly flown, however.

Needless to say, we just missed the bl**dy cable car!

great photo - I was in the rescued party so nice to see photo of it happening! 1 of the party was injured in a fall, but recovering well at home after a few days in hospital.
