A heatwave in September?
Sean Kelly - 05/Apr/16
Yes, indeed. It was absolutely blistering. I reached the summit of Blaven (via the South Ridge) about an hour and a half before Mike was due to get there, and had a big problem with dehydration ... I was having to ration the water because I was also carrying at least 2 more litres for Mike. On the way up the south ridge there were two other parties, but they all turned back about 2/3 the way up because of the heat. It was very fierce there because there was virtually nowhere you could get into the shade. Mike's Great Traverse was all the more remarkable in the conditions. We then had to make our way all the way back to the Coruisk hut, getting there at about 11.30 at night. A very long day.
