A close up of the striations on the Cioch Slab would make an interesting abstract shot Gordon.

Indeed. But this was a tailor-made picture for my Cuillin book: I wanted a huge medium format picture that would convey the scale of the crag and fill most of a double-page spread (with no margins, except for caption on the right). The dusting of snow somehow helped convey the scale. I had quite a few abstract pictures already. Always, when doing a big photographic book like this, you have to think exactly what you need for the book, to create a balance between the (relatively) small and the (very) large.

BTW, have you done Arrow Slab. Those striations are v. small when you get there... IIRC there wasn't a stitch of protection for about the last 70 feet. V undergraded at Diff, imho. It's about Severe.

Great photo of one of my favourite bits of rock. I wonder whether that ice smear on the upper buttress ever forms properly!
