What were you standing on when you took this? Assuming some sort of rocky area rather than an extension of the snow slab area?

Correct! I selected a completely safe route and viewpoint and used a zoom lens to get the photo safely. Going onto high risk avalanche terrain is something I always avoid - and the dangers of going onto this snow slab slope were very obvious and not for me!
