...and in my loft.....

3 or 4 times the weight of the modern stuff in the background but lasted about 10 times longer!

Indestructable. I had or still have a pair of Brenva's that gave 15 years service.

These were the make of boots I had Norway in 1969 and the Alps in 1971 and for several years after that. They took a lot of breaking in (and it was not clear whether it was the boots or one's feet that were doing the breaking in), but once that was achieved, they fitted like a glove and one could climb at quite a high level in them (HVS+). For a certain type of climbing with positive small footholds they were almost as good as rock shoes because one could use a kind of "front-pointing" technique: the boot was so stiff and the ankle piece so high that they braced the entire foot, reducing the stress on the arms.

still use mine :-)

Yes I remember looking at adverts for Galibier boots in Climbing magazines when I was a kid in the early 70s. Only a few people I knew had them. I think the best thing about these boots were that wearing them was weight training for your legs.

They did a Super Guide version with plastic toecaps that I had for years. Best mountain boots I ever wore and cost a weeks wage & more!

I had a pair with the plastic toe caps - 'Super Pro' they were, so comfy. The old benchmark was that a good pair of boots cost the equivalent of a working man's weekly wage

I still have a pair and use them; still great and dependable

I had a pair of these circa 1977 and upgraded to the Super Pro with blue toe cap in the early 80's. Think I sold my first pair to Trevor Pilling for a fiver. Still have my Super Pro's somewhere.

That's how I got my name, climbing Red slab on Cloggy behind Tut, great support for the feet, Front pointing, yes, is what comes to mind.

Great boots also had some Super Pro, same boots but with fibre glass covered toe

Like I said in a previous comment, a great boot for doing Red Slab, just required good footwork. Bought my first pair in '68 I think, £10.19/6. Second pair in '71 £14.95, Third pair '78 £66.00. But don't wear them much now, but many happy memories.
