Really like this

good photo - I would like to see what it looks like all in colour - I find just the climber in colour slightly contrived - often works but for me in this one somehow slightly irritating - wish I could explain why - Still a 4 though

Scary!!

Works for me too!

... and me!

The orange shirt matches the orangy tinge in the sky.. Very nice.

Great soaring cathedral lines, spoilt by the orange splash. Hybrids don't work as they always appear artificial. Just make it a gritty B&W and it'll work much better.
rtinma - 27/Feb/12
Good strong composition makes this image really work, which is unusual for a shot up someone's bottom, if you know what I mean!

Thanks for the comments , I chose the B+w/ colour combo as I felt it give the image a bit more impact which it lacked as either a straight b+w or colour image. If anything I might have tried composing it a bit better with the climber slightly left of his position and rotated the camera slightly anti clockwise so the strong diagonal running top left to right was more diagonal if that makes sense

This is photo of the week for me without a shadow. We all know snowy alpine scenes are nice, and the fat bloke with no shoes. . . WTF? This is just brilliant.
GBurton - 01/Mar/12
I agree with Geoff

A genuinely brilliant pic. Well done!

Great shot, really think the added colour works well. Anoyone not sure have a look at it in straight monochrome and you'll see the benefit immediately.. Nice work
Steve Hillier - 04/Mar/12
Absolutely love this photo love the colour use and making the rock dark and grey makes the climb look even more daunting
SimonMarcYoung - 04/Mar/12
A well deserved Photo of the Week, nice one. I think you made the right choices with the processing. Of course the selective colour will upset many, but the fact that it still got POTW easily shows that vast majority agree. More importantly I reckon the black and white conversion is really nicely done and the composition is spot on too.
Dan Arkle - 04/Mar/12
Can't see a rope? If he's soloing then it looks quite necky!
Bruce Hooker - 05/Mar/12
Not much point having a rope Bruce. Surprised you haven't heard of it to be honest.
Jonny2vests - 05/Mar/12
perfect composition !!
psborland - 06/Mar/12
Split opinions it seems, but i love the use of colour in this. Great shot. I can dream. The tech grade is so low, the risk so high...
psychomansam - 06/Mar/12
Nice one
Fex Wazner - 09/Mar/12
I've changed my mind and think that this really does work especially with the tone of the sky. Expresses well the essence of grit.
rtinma - 19/May/12
Fantastic
