Comment and critique welcome. I couldn't decide between this and #2. As always the choice was between a well exposed sky or foreground.

Prefer this one. Nice to see a bit of the climber's face and the texture of the rock - great shot.
Tom Last - 29/May/11
I think this is better, i like the texture in the rock and there is no distracting lens flare.
Dan Lane - 29/May/11
Same as everyone else really, this is so much better for the reasons given ! Looks amazing..........

A well thought out and taken shot.... top notch. Great colours and texture, love it!

I tend to agree, Dan. I think this photo works better as a composition, but I see what you mean about the capturing the sky. Have you tried a low opacity graduated mask (filter) in photoshop on the top half, ie down to the horizon, say 20%, to bring out the detail in the sky?

Who is looking at the sky?? This one is magical; made Stanage look like Utah; texture of the roof makes it for me.
Jon Read - 30/May/11
Thanks all, that's very helpful. Dave - have done something similar with two RAW conversions- there's no more detail in the file!

Great photo Dan. Is Amber Nectar the route name? I don't recognise where this route is. It looks more Separate Reality than High Neb

The route is Nectar (E4 6b). Using a wide angle lens and lacing it with gear helped make it look a little longer than it actually is! Thanks to Gareth for helping me take this.

Great photo Dan reminds me of Yosemite!

Excellent photo, I would not have guessed it was stanage in a million years.
