'Was my beginning in the coloured world...' (Yevtushenko)
Mick Ward - 19/Dec/10
Lovely picture

Thanks. It was shot in Macro mode so it's really sharp on those stunning pebbles. The clarity when you zoom in on the pebbles in the foreground is very impressive - testament to the camera really.

I also had to disturb the top layer of pebbles in the whole shot (brush them with my hand as quick as possible) so you can see the wet pebbles underneath the dry top layer. You can see that in the background they have started to dry and go greyer but the foreground ones are still glistening

It's incredible how the colour comes alive when stones are wet. The foreground totally makes this image. And a nice girl...
Sean Kelly - 23/Dec/10
Absolutely Sean, it would be really dull if the stones were dry and grey looking.

I appreciate that its nice and different and colourful, but the choice of focus sits odd with me.Its all preference I guess but would liked to have seen the climber sharp, from same viewpoint with a lovely blur of colour in foreground.I think the climber demands more focus than the stones.nicely executed though.

Thanks for your input Sean. I'm pretty new to all this so appreciate the feedback. I did get a shot like that but it didn't look anywhere near as good in my opinion. It didn't do those pebbles proper justice. The show for me is about those pebbles so I wanted to get them really crisp. As you say it would be a blur of colour if I'd focused on Charlotte but I wanted the colours in the foreground to be sharp and defined. For me, the image works better when you enlarge it so you can really see the detail.

Great to see something differnet, most togs have the climber in focus and everything else out, you can never beat thinking outside the box!!!
climbalive - 26/Dec/10
Wonderful, original picture. The pebbles make it and leave the climbing to the imagination.

I really like this, well done for seeing things a little differently. =o)

I think this shot is spot on - the pebbles in focus and the climber out really work. Would be interested to see the other shot for comparison. Tom, is she your burd like? :)
Chris F - 06/Jan/11
Fantastic in every sense, I was initially drawn to the climber, then you look at the pebbles and they 'hypnotise' you.
chris fox - 10/Jan/11
Nice idea but its about pebbles and not Charlotte
