Thanks! It's one of those photos i've wanted to take for a while; nice and close, just enough frost and most importantly as sharp as you like.
Took a few goes to get it right, was pretty happy that Pete took a minute or two to pull the ropes in!

Levels, contast and sharpened. Shot in tiff so needed a tweak. Nothing major.

First saw this type of pic of Wally Herbert. He used it on the cover of one of his books.

great photo! What camera did you use? How did you get the quality so good?

Thanks for all the comments.
Nick-
Quality is down to a good lens (the Panasonic Lumix FZ5 has a belting wee lens on it), aperture not wide open (f3.6) but a reasonably short shutter speed (1/100).
It was shot in tiff to retain detail and then processed in Lightroom before being resized and saved using photoshop to get the best level of detail for the allowed file size.
I did forget though that UKC has increased the file size allowed so this could be better (currently it's less than 120k).
The exposure was hard work though, it kept getting carried away with the background despite my attempts to keep it centre weighted.
Am very happy with how it worked out though.

Superb shot, I love the amount of detail/sharpness in this image not to mention the limited pallet of colours, quality.
