Despite having loads of great climbing and being situated in the busiest climbing area in the country, the crags that ring the Kinder Scout plateau are spectacularly unpopular with trad climbers. You will never have to queue for a route so if you’re the sort of person who despairs at the crowds of Froggatt, The Roaches and Stanage Popular then this is where you need to be.
But while the whole mountain (hill? moorland plateau?) is testament to the fact that popularity and quality are independent it’s nice to know where to start in a dauntingly diffuse area and it’s always fun to have a list to tick, so here are the 26 routes on Kinder with the most recorded ascents on the UKC logbooks- almost half of them are into triple figures! While they are not necessarily the very best 26 routes up there, they are the most likely to be clean, which is another good thing to know.
