Murton Pike, Murton Fell, and High Cup Nick Walking

The North Pennines form the most substantial area of high ground in England, but these moorland hills are far quieter than the nearby Lake District. Despite the largely rolling contours, moments of scenic grandeur can still be found, and among them High Cup is the most famous. Ringed by tumbling crags, this symmetrical glacial bowl is one of Britain's natural wonders. The walk described here takes in the lovely little hill of Murton Pike and the remote moorland fell of Murton Fell on the way to High Cup Nick at the head of the valley, before a return leg down into High Cup itself.
