The summit of Plattenberg offers a great view to all points of the compass: Zürichsee, Säntis, Churfirsten, Walensee, Obersee, Mürtschenstock, Glärnisch, the neighbouring peaks of the Wägital, the Mythen, Rigi, Pilatus, and even a glimpse of Tödi. The south facing slabs (platten) which given the peak its name can be climbed almost anywhere, but is reported to be rather laborious. The peak is normally climbed with a traverse of the summit ridge incorporating straightforward grassy scrambles at each end.
Taking the Postbus to Innerthal on the shores of the Wägitalersee would suggest an approach via the Bockmattlipass and the highly exposed traverse path under the east face of Schiberg to the col at Furgge, at the west end of the peak. Otherwise, by car there are parking spots at the side of the road along the Wägitalersee south of Innerthal, in the vicinity of pt.931, allowing an easier approach to Furgge from the south, or to Mürli at the east end of the peak.
