If you want an example of a very popular walk that is shredded, try Sgòrr na Cìche (Pap of Glencoe). In that case, trying to find out who has permission to do anything is one of the issues I think. It would be great to try to raise some money for work on it but you can't even add a collection box if you don't know who owns what parts of the path. Little video here to show an example.

Ye Gods it's a wee path in amongst 1000's of acres of untouched hillside.

You'll need to see a physio if you keep up with this level of hand-wringing
