Due to my climbing buddy's injury, we need some crags with do-able (> VS or sport 6a) routes with a shortish walk in if possible.  He can climb and walk down from the top but doesn't need to be walking in for an hour too.  We'll be based in Wasdale but can drive.

I get that it's not what the lakes is about but for this trip we're making the best of it.

Have ordered guides but they aren't here yet.  Advice appreciated.

The vast majority of the decent crags in Wasdale are >1hr walk in.

You could try Buckbarrow - this is about 20mins but steep & uphill.

Otherwise, there are more roadside crags in Eskdale

Eskdale has a few crags with short approach walks.

Brantrake, Hare, Goat, and Bell Stand to name a few. All granite, all good.

In reply to Mark Eddy:

Hare crags is hard work this time of year with the bracken up. The others on your list would probably be a better shout.

Duddon valley might be better, or StBees

Long Scar and Black Crag, about a 30 min gentle walk from the top of Wrynose Pass, might be a good option... plenty of routes up to VS and all single pitch with dead easy walk offs...

Aye, has been a while since I've been and had forgotten about the giant bracken. Hare and Goat probs similar

Bit of a drive (and an exciting one) over Hard Knott pass would take you to this rather nice little crag, 5 mins from the road. Birks Bridge Crag

Or perhaps not.

Anyway, there are details of Birks Bridge Crag here, P 28 onward.

Think I need to visit Birks Bridge crag, I've been meaning to go there to swim for a while. Thanks for the link.

Cold water soloing?

It's a great spot, but I'd guess it will need a couple of dry days as it rises out of trees.

Thanks all. Appreciate the ideas - have a cracking bank holiday.

And yes. I meant up to and inc VS. Would be weird if I was pretty mediocre on sport then kicked ass on trad. I say up to VS but the lakes grades always kick my ass so I’ll have to see if that’s accurate or not as I go. 😝

Been to Birks Bridge today, great little crag for my first climb since March. We even had the crag to ourselves!

Swam in the river as well which was very 'refreshing'.
