Hi all

Looking for someone who can solve my foot woes. Have tried local physio, podiatrist and they’ve offered some solutions but don’t seem utterly convinced and 8 months later neither am I! Summary of issue below but hoping to find an absolute expert somewhere I can get to from Exeter area although if I have to travel further it may be worth it at this point.

Summary

Pain in ball of foot under second toe.

xray, no stress fracture.

ultra sound no neuroma or weakening of plantar plate.

Switching to cushioned shoes has allowed me to continue running 60m a week although I do get flare ups. Worst in work (smart) shoes.

Been a runner for a few years and always had the odd lateral issue on that leg (itband etc) usually related to tightness nothing that’s ever lasted more than a couple of days rest. This I can take 5 days off and it goes but comes straight back again.

I need a real expert now!

Not a foot specialist but a running shoe specialist and the only running shop west of Exeter in Devon - Run Venture Running Hub in Tavistock (Colin Kirk-Potter). He's also a qualified sports therapist.

Regards,

Sam

From your description my first thoughts were plantar plate dysfunction. Who claims to have ruled this out and by what test?

In reply to Andrew Lodge:

Thanks- I had an ultrasound although come to think that was to rule out any kind of plantar sprain or tear - is that different to what you think?

oddest symptom is that no matter what poking or prodding I do I can’t make it hurt. Just when walking or running.
