The best insurance isn't necessarily the cheapest, but the one which will pay up if you need to claim.
I've always used the BMC. I've never had to claim until recently, when they settled a small claim for damage to my camera very quickly. Some years ago when a friend broke his leg high up on Everest they got him home from what was a very difficult and complex (and expensive) situation. I also feel I'm helping to support the BMC.
