I've noticed this evening that somewhere between the 1964 guidebook and the 1989 guide, the name of this Stanage route has gone from PIAzza Slab to Pizza Slab. Can anyone shed any light on this? Foe my pizza-mind it would be great to know what the true name should be!

That is a great trivia spot. I just checked, it is Piazza Slab in the 1964 book but has changed to Pizza Slab in the next green 1976 version. I'm guessing someone simply miscopied it in the days before digital versions existed. I might correct it next time around

Cheers Chris - I don't have the 1976 guide so I couldn't check that! I do prefer Piazza myself! One of a clutch of routes done 61-63 by Les Gillott and Alan Clarke.

I always knew it as Piazza - a marketplace (and, in the U.S., a balcony) - much more fitting than Pizza.
