I see to recall in the dim and distant past somebody allegedly contacting UKC to claim an on sight solo of Indian Face, which resulted in some sort of jokey article. Suspiciously named Joseph Smith as I recall...?

Hazy memories but was there not a guy a while back logged all sorts of hard winter routes? Seem to recall that he tried to defend himself but the general consensus was he was some sort of fantasist. Anyone else remember that or am I making it up?

No, you’re right. He went by the name of r2d2 or something like that! He messaged me once (maybe in response to one of my articles? Can’t remember) and listed winter routes he’d soloed (which included VIIs or 7s). He was pleasant about it, which made it sadder. But none of it fitted. He also claimed an ascent of Guerdon Grooves. I think there was something on his profile about working for one of the MRTs (Lakes?), which may or may not have been true, I don’t know.

I think there are quite a few joke entries on harder routes in the logbooks.

There's an anonymous on-sight of Indian Face in 2015, to give just one example.

Yea there was a person putting up false ticks for a while, I think his name was Rich Simpson...
